Ray Gerald Robertson peacefully passed away Friday morning, August 10th, 2018 after battling leukemia for almost a year. He was heard to say, if he lived well to 82, he’d be happy. And he was happy and healthy until last September. He was born March 5, 1935 to Horace Gerald and Marion Cecilia Robertson at Burlington Hospital.

Ray and Mary Jane Schenk were married March 22, 1959, in Winfield, Iowa.

Ray grew up on a farm and felt very blessed to farm his whole life. Because his first priority was providing for his family, Ray spent most of his waking hours working on his farm.

He was of the Christian faith, having grown up in the Mediapolis Presbyterian Church. He was a founding member of both the Mediapolis Junior Farmers 4-H Club, and Mediapolis Jaycee’s. He was director of the Farm Bureau, President of The County Extension Board, 4-H leader, and a member of Mediapolis Community Bowling League, and the Southeast Iowa Sheep Association. Ray also served on several committees appointed by County Supervisors.

He wanted the Iowa State Cyclones to win unless they played the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed going with friends to Hawkeye basketball games, and in later years, meeting uptown with his friends for morning coffee and donuts.

He looked forward to watching local kids show at the county and state fairs. And he loved sharing the bounty of his sweet corn harvest and fruit trees.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, Daughter Rasheila (Lance) Dolleman, Urbandale, Iowa;  sons Ramarr Robertson, Mediapolis; and Radell (Cathi) Robertson, Independence; his two grandchildren-he called them the apple of his eyes-Marie and Sumner Dolleman, Des Moines; sister Jeanne Carter, sister-in-law Dee Robertson, both of Mediapolis; two step-grandsons, Brett (Nicole) Vanous, and Brad Vanous; two step great-granddaughters, Elisabeth and Charlotte Vanous; several nieces and nephews, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harold Henry Robertson, and brother-in-law Robert Carter.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.  The Funeral Ceremony will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Kent Carter.  Burial will follow at the Kossuth Cemetery.

Memorial gifts will benefit the Mediapolis Community Ambulance Service and the Mediapolis Volunteer Fire Department.

My condolences, dear family. Many happy memories of Mr. Robertson be with you. And may these loving promises from Jehovah God comfort and strengthen you in times of sadness. “Do not be anxious…..but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7; Isaiah 25:8 New World Translation
