Elizabeth Jean Heitmeier, age 94 years, 11 months and 16 days of Mediapolis, died Friday evening, November 16th, 2018 at Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.  She was the oldest daughter of Earl and Bessie (Carter) Honson and was born on November 25, 1923 in Wapello, IA.  Jean graduated from Mediapolis High School and Burlington Business College.  She married Robert Charles Heitmeier on July 14, 1946 in Mediapolis, IA.  He preceded her in death on January 2, 1996.

Jean worked at the Ordnance Plant and retired in 1986 from Chittenden and Eastman after 25 years as a Bookkeeper.  She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, the UMW and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was deeply loved by her family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and she cherished each moment spent together.  Nature, flowers and traveling brought her abundant joy.  Jean was a Godly woman who always placed others first.

Her family included five daughters, Roberta Jean Heitmeier (deceased), Barbara & Gary Watt, Cary, NC, Kristine & Scott Hoschek of Burlington, Denise & Kent Grimm of Wapello and Mary & Randy Schulte of West Burlington; thirteen grandchildren, Amie (Gaylen) Hackemack, Kori (Jack) Leighty, Kelli (Justin) Myers, Derek (Kori) Stotlar, Kayla (Quintin) Allworth, Leann (Kyle) Hamstra, David (Caily) Watt, Kurt (Cassie) Schulte, Jordan (Amanda) Grimm, Kyle (Raegan) Schulte, Jenna (Blaine) Dopler, Kelsie (Skylar) Schmeiser and Keaton Hoschek (Taylor Rice) and twenty five great grandchildren.  Five brothers; Lowell (Marjorie) Honson (deceased), Lyndell Honson (deceased) (Mary), Ralph (Vickie) Honson, Lester (Judy) Honson, Ronald (Nancy) Honson and one sister, Bette (Gerald) Siefken along with many special nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded by her husand Robert, daughter Roberta, her parents Earl and Bessie, brothers Lowell and Lyndell and several sister-in-laws.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Mediapolis First United Methodist Church and the funeral ceremony at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. Bruce Smith officiating.  Interment will be at Kossuth Cemetery with a lunch gathering to follow at the church.

Memorial gifts will benefit the Mediapolis Public Library and Great River Hospice.
