Shirley Ann Heitmeier, age 85, of Morning Sun, died Sunday February 17, 2019, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. The daughter of Forrest and Exie (Bazel) Pontzius, she was born on October 30, 1933, in Grandview, Iowa. Shirley married Roger Heitmeier on November 15, 1952 in Morning Sun, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 3, 2012.

 

She graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1951. Shirley was a factory worker at Sylvania, until it closed and at Champion Spark Plug, where she retired from after 36 years.

 

Shirley was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Morning Sun. She loved camping, playing cards, and going to the casino. She especially enjoyed spending time with friends at the Dairy Barn in Morning Sun and being with her grandchildren.

 

Shirley’s family includes one son, Royce (Polly) Heitmeier of West Burlington; two daughters, Arlene (Jerry Jr.) Sterner of Morning Sun and Zelda (Reno) Musser of Muscatine; 6 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her parents; and a grandson, Ryan.

 

The funeral ceremony for Shirley Ann Heitmeier, will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday February 21, 2019, at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Morning Sun, Iowa officiated by Rev. Carl Benge. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun followed by a luncheon gathering at the Centenary United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Morning Sun. A memorial has been established by the family.

Was a good friend and a lovely person in high school. We played basketball and
Band together and I never heard a cross or hateful word ever. She always had

Heitmeier Family, I rode with Shirley to and from Burlington the year before I got married. She was such a friendly person. She always asked about my family when we ran into each other. So sorry for your loss.
